As a mom, I’ve learned that being prepared doesn’t mean you need to pack everything—you just need to pack the right things. It took some time for me to learn the do’s and dont’s. Im an ‘over packer’ type of person so the old me would pack everythingggg.
Now that my baby is now a toddler, I swapped my diaper bag for a Toddler Tote. These 5 essentials are my top must haves for what I keep in my bag.
1. Extra diapers + wipes
This one is obvious, but sometimes you just forget. Even though my toddler is just about fully potty trained, I always keep at least 3–4 diapers because accidents, delays, and unexpected messes happen. Wipes also come in handy for everything.
2. Snacks & Water Bottle
Snacks and water bottle are always needed. For my toddler I always pack things like veggie straws, a banana, berries, puffs. I throw it right in the bag. Even though I always try to make sure my little one is fed before leaving the house, their busy bodies are moving and growing so having something quick to pull out can prevent a full meltdowns wherever you are.
3. A change of clothes
At least one full outfit—sometimes 2-3 if I know we’ll be out for a while. Spills, accidents, and messy play are basically guaranteed when you have a toddler.
4. Favorite Toys
I don’t pack the whole toy box—just a few items. We are in the Hot wheel car era phase. He usually will take 2-3 of his “favorite of the day” cars with him. I also keep a Water Wow Pad, Bubbles and a Drawing Pad with me. If I notice he is having a lot of big feelings, I will pack a little plush toy. Just throw it all in the bag.
5. My Mini Zip Pouch aka My Peace of Mind for Outings
My mini zip pouch I found at the dollar tree. I love it. I keep all my little things I think I’ll need for those just in case moments. Here is what I keep inside (most items found at the dollar tree)
• Clorox sanitizing wipes
• Hand Sanitizer
• Small size trash bags
• A few sandwich bags
• Nail clipper
• Tweezer
• On the Go First Aid Kit
• Pen
• Cuticle oil & lip balm
• Eye drops
• Tooth picks
• Advil
That’s mostly all of what I keep in my Toddler Tote. In addition to what is not listed, I will also put in some sunscreen now that summer is here. Along with his inhaler in case my son needs it
